Become a Certified Tutor, Mentor, or Academic Coach

How Do I Obtain My Initial NTA Certification?

Certification and/or accreditation through the National Tutoring Association is designed to be earned at an either an Individual Level or Program Level. Individuals and/or programs at all Elementary Schools, High Schools, Middle Schools, Post-secondary Schools, Community Programs, Private Practices, Faith Based Programs, and Institutional or Commercial Learning Centers may apply for certification.

Before you begin the certification process, you must first become a member of the NTA. Please see the Membership  page and choose the proper membership level before beginning the certification process.

Please note that individual tutors are not required to be employed by a school or tutoring company. Many of our tutors are individual tutors not affiliated with a formal organization. Everyone, regardless of employment, is required to provide proof of tutoring experience. More information can be found on the pages in this section.
There are six steps in the certification process. A Certification Checklist can be found on the Certification Application page.

  1. Maintain current NTA membership. Become a member today!
  2. Take the training. Initial certification must be applied for within two years of completion of initial training.
  3. Complete the Certification Application Form.
  4. Attach required documentation as noted on the application checklist (you may use the FTP dropbox below).
  5. Complete a background check forms and fees as directed on the certification application. Use package code NG50.
  6. Enclose the appropriate certification fees. We accept checks, money orders, and PayPal.

Please remember . . .

  • The certification process will not begin without payment.
  • Certification fees do not include NTA annual membership.
  • Certification and membership may be processed concurrently.

How Do I Submit My Documentation of Tutoring Hours?
