The NTA defines peer tutoring as trained student tutors assisting other students who are within close proximity of the tutor's grade and age. The research clearly demonstrates that Peer Tutoring is academically effective and costs significantly less to oversee than private practice or other professionally driven tutoring programs. With additional research indicating that approximately 7,000 high school students per day drop out of school, the need for peer tutors cannot be overlooked any longer. Peer tutors are a valuable and viable resource just waiting to be tapped.
Last year, at our first "TutorPalooza," event, our team trained and certified over 800 peer tutors (Level I - Basic) in a single day (Saturday, October 13, 2007) at Wheeling High School in Wheeling, IL. As the leading national organization training professional and peer tutors, the NTA is uniquely qualified to conduct this event. In 2007. TutorPalooza took place in conjunction with the celebration of National Tutoring Week, October 8-12, 2007.
Our second TutorPalooza event will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Wheeling High School in Wheeling, Il. This time we expect to train 1000+ peer tutors. We also expect to add an additional city to our roster in 2009.
