Online Tutor Training

New, Easier Paths To Tutor Training and Certification
NTA offers the most economical and convenient choices anywhere for tutor training, assessment, and certification.  As an alternative to on-site training, the most efficient, effective method is "Tutoring Foundations," a self-paced, NTA supervised, mastery based training. The "Tutor Skills Test" assessment recognizes knowledge and experience through an essay examination. Both are delivered on-line and were developed by Crossroads of Learning, and approved by Fielding Graduate University and the NTA. Certification and CEUs are optional following completion of the program.

A Complete On-line Tutor Training Program
The "Tutoring Foundations" online training program is self-paced, self-scheduled, and estimated to require approximately 15 to 20 learner hours for each of the three modules, 45-60 hours for the comprehensive program. Learners may begin working minutes after on-line registration. Each learner is supervised by an NTA Master Tutor who reviews and responds to course work.

Train-the-Trainer/Classroom Workbooks/Certification

The NTA provides a path to individual certification via tutor training conducted by your own staff using the “Tutoring Foundations” train-the trainer/consumable workbook series.
The on-line, self-paced train-the-trainer program with NTA Master Tutor Mentor

  • Begins with Basic, Intermediate and Advanced curriculum study from the trainer’s perspective

  • Is followed by the integrative capstone which includes classroom techniques, leadership, development of your tutor community of practice and more

The workbooks articulate with the “Tutoring Foundations” on-line training described in the section above.
Following successful completion of the training course and the NTA trainer certification process (application, references, etc.), your trainers may train and pre-process certifications for tutors and staff providing all parties are part of an NTA Certification Affiliate organization. NTA Certification Affiliates may vouch for applicants practical tutoring hours, references and criminal background checks kept on file. This results in an accelerated certification process and qualifies many applicants for reduced fees.
