The Mathematics Workshop-Pathway To Competence emphasizes techniques how to use vocabulary to effectively communicate concepts and employ skillful questioning to stimulate engaging critical thinking for 1-on-1, group, or in-classroom tutoring sessions. Learn strategies how to identify problems that hinder conceptual understanding, improve learning Mathematics content for effective confidence-building, and master operations performed on equations. This workshop helps tutors confront and manage a silent epidemic, commonly known as Math Anxiety. Participants leave the workshop with confidence in mathematics, as competent communicators using Math symbols, and with transportable skills (i.e. online learning) to apply immediately. Participants also leave the session able to identify and minimize the impact of Math Anxiety on academic performance. The facilitator combines a unique combination of physics and mathematics education, technical background, Math tutoring experience, and training experience to model techniques and strategies in this interactive professional development workshop.
